  • Revealed: Inter Milan Boss’ Plans To Rotate Goalkeepers

Inter Milan head coach Cristian Chivu will consider a period of alternating goalkeepers between Yann Sommer and Josep Martinez.

This news arrives from today’s print edition of the Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

The Gazzetta claim that Martinez could start his first game of the season as soon as Sunday’s match against Sassuolo.

It was a change rumoured to take place for Inter’s midweek win over Ajax after Sommer attracted criticism in last weekend’s Derby d’Italia defeat to Juventus.

The Swiss international rewarded his coach with a stellar performance and a clean sheet against the Dutch side.

The Gazzetta claim that Chivu could choose to start alternating his goalkeepers more.

Sommer is not getting any younger and his contract is ticking down.

Chivu could use said rotation to start getting the Spaniard experience in view to become the number one keeper next season.

  • Jérôme Boateng to go into coaching after announcing retirement

German World Cup winner Jérôme Boateng intends to go into coaching after announcing his retirement on Friday.

“I want to be a coach in professional football,” Boateng told the Sunday edition of the Welt newspaper.

“I recently completed the training course and examination for my B licence. Now I want to get the A licence (…) and begin as an assistant coach at a club as soon as possible.”

Boateng received his UEFA B coaching licence in November 2024 in a special course run by the Bavarian Football Association (BFV).

The Berlin-born defender won 76 Germany caps between 2009 and 2018, and was a stalwart during the 2014 World Cup title run in Brazil. He also won the U21 Euros in 2009 and received Germany’s Footballer of the Year award in 2016.

The 37-year-old ended his career via Instagram on Friday.

“Football has given me a lot, now it is time to move on. Not because I have to but because I am ready,” Boateng said in a video.

“I am grateful for everything. I played for a long time, for big clubs, for my country,” he said. “I have learnt, won, lost.”

Boateng made his Bundesliga debut in 2007 at Hertha Berlin, and enjoyed a glorious run of success during a decade at Bayern Munich winning two Champions Leagues, nine Bundesligas and five German Cups before leaving in 2021.

He then played for Olympique Lyon, Italy’s Salernitana, and finally Austria’s Linzer ASK where he terminated his contract in August after featuring in only 14 games.

Boateng revealed he had been thinking about retirement since June.

“I could have played for longer. But then it would have been mainly about enjoying my last years as a player,” he told Welt. “I’d rather make room for young players and concentrate on a new phase of my life.”

He also commented again on allegations of assault on his former girlfriend Kasia Lenhardt, which were dropped by the Munich public prosecutor’s office in March. Boateng denied ever hitting a woman.

While the charges were dropped, he received a caution from the Munich Regional Court in 2024 for deliberately causing her bodily harm.

“I was cautioned because I injured my ex-girlfriend’s eye during an argument, although I would like to emphasize that she injured my lip first,” he said. “It was a scuffle in which we injured each other in an argument.”

His half-brother Kevin-Prince Boateng, a fellow professional footballer who played internationally for Ghana, publicly distanced himself from Jérôme because of the allegations.

“We met some time ago to talk. He apologized to me for the statements in question. And revealed to me that he made them out of years of envy towards me,” said Jérôme Boateng.

He accepted the apology, but the two are not currently in contact, he said.

  • Indio’s defense leads the Rajahs to big win over San Gorgonio

Indio’s defense leads the Rajahs to big win over San Gorgonio

    play

Indio High School struggled over the first four weeks of the football season in the valley, which made Friday’s win even sweeter.

The Rajahs fell behind at home against San Gorgonio before rallying to a 27-16 win at Ed White Stadium.

First-year assistant coach Jake Shipley took over defensive play-calling duties and Indio responded with its best defensive effort of the season. The Rajahs (1-4) had allowed at least 43 points in all four of their losses.

Thompson said that Shipley made “a lot of courageous calls” that put Indio in a position to win.

At one point in the second half, Indio stopped the Spartans 14-play drive near the goal line to force a turnover on downs. Thompson described the moment as one filled with emotion after what the team has endured this season.

“I’m just so proud of our guys,” Indio head coach Lamont Thompson said. “They just refused to lose today.”

Though Thompson said that the win was “a great team effort,” with several players making big plays, junior Damian Durinzi had a signature performance. He returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown, he ran for a 30-yard touchdown, scored on a 12-yard receiving touchdown and also rushed for 115 yards, and finished the night with 12 tackles.

Thompson said that linebackers Luis Garcia Jr. and Roman Rodriguez were among several Indio players who had their best game of the season.

Indio will now look to start a win streak Friday at West Valley in Hemet.

“It’s been a tough season,” Thompson said. “So this one felt good. I’m just so proud of our guys and the effort they put into this win.”

  • “They are” – Sky Sports reporter shares interesting inside information on Sterling and Disasi situation

Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi aren’t always training on their own at Chelsea according to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solehkol.

Chelsea tried all summer to sell both Sterling and Disasi, but despite interest from several clubs the duo ended up remaining at Stamford Bridge.

They are now the only remaining members of the infamous “bomb squad” after David Datro Fofana completed a loan moan to Turkish side Fatih Karagümrük.

Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi not always training on their own

Sterling and Disasi train away from the first team on a separate pitch, but Chelsea have provided them with coaches and a training plan.

There had been reports the PFA were looking into Chelsea’s treatment of Sterling and Disasi, and will be keeping a close eye on the situation.

Chelsea didn’t receive any offers for Sterling on deadline day, whilst Disasi reportedly turned down loan moves to three Premier League clubs.

Simon Jordan has accused Sterling of caring more about money than playing football, whilst Enzo Maresca has confirmed there’s no way back for the duo.

Sky Sports reporter Solhekol has provided an update on the situation surrounding Sterling and Disasi, and revealed they don’t always train on their own.

He took to X.com and said:

“Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi are not always training on their own at Chelsea.

“They also now train with a younger group of players when possible. Sterling posted a picture on social media this week of a night-time training session, but that is something that happens very rarely.

“Multiple groups of players train at different times at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground and for scheduling reasons, that was an evening session.

“It is in everyone’s interest for the players to be in top condition so it will be easier for them to move to new clubs when the window opens again in January.

Chelsea duo not training with the first team

Solhekol went on to explain Sterling and Disasi weren’t training with the first team because the sole focus is to prepare for games.

“They are not training with the first-team squad because the sole focus of the first team is to prepare for games.

    More Stories / Latest News

“It would make no sense for players who are not going to play for the first team to take part in those training sessions.

“The young players Sterling and Disasi train with are some of the best young players in the game and they benefit from working with experienced international players.”

  • Rays bullpen falters in loss to Red Sox despite Pereira’s late grand slam

Rays bullpen falters in loss to Red Sox despite Pereira’s late grand slam

The night began with a reminder that baseball is more than just a game but an ongoing story. Dewayne Staats, the voice of Rays baseball since the beginning, tossed out the first pitch in what was a nod to his fiftieth season in the booth and perhaps a quiet acknowledgment that his time at the mic is winding down. On the field, there was an even stranger sighting as the Rays’ outgoing principal owner, Stu Sternberg, was pulling duty as a ballboy. Just as his ownership tenure is coming to a close, so did the Rays’ postseason hopes by the end of the night.

Every night at the ballpark, you can see something for the first time, and this game leaned hard into that theme.

Drew Rasmussen was on the hill, and for two batters, it looked like his command might carry the night. Jarren Duran chopped one to short for the first out, and Trevor Story struckout. Then things started to change. Alex Bregman worked a walk, Masataka Yoshida hit a double to right, and suddenly the Red Sox had two runners in scoring position with two down. Rasmussen escaped when Romy Gonzalez grounded to second, but it was a first warning sign that the game would not follow a clean script.

The Rays struck first in the bottom of the inning. Yandy Díaz, doing Yandy Díaz things, lashed a double to left. Christopher Morel followed with a walk, and though Josh Lowe went down swinging, Nick Fortes punched a grounder up the middle to bring Díaz home. It was 1–0, and it felt like momentum might settle in Tampa Bay’s favor.

But some would argue that in baseball, momentum is a social construct.

In the second, Nate Eaton slapped a single past first, and Nathaniel Lowe immediately followed with a liner to center that brought him home to tie the game. Rasmussen regrouped with a strikeout and some quick outs, but the tone was already being set that no inning was going to be easy.

Then came the fireworks from the young Rays. Carson Williams turned on a pitch in the second and sent it flying into the right field seats. A solo shot, his fifth of the season, and the Rays were back in front 2–1. It was one of those moments that makes you wonder how high the ceiling can be for this team next season.

The back-and-forth continued in the third. Richie Palacios made a smooth spinning throw to retire Story, but Alex Bregman was waiting. He jumped on a pitch and lasered it into the left field seats to tie the game 2–2. Yandy Díaz answered right back in the bottom half, belting his 25th homer of the season to right and giving the Rays a 3–2 lead.

The Rays bullpen entered in the fourth, and the rhythm shifted. Cole Sulser gave the Rays a clean fourth, and Rasmussen’s night was quietly finished. On the other side, Garrett Crochet was mowing through Tampa Bay hitters. Both teams traded strikeouts and stranded baserunners through the middle innings.

The seventh is where it broke. Garrett Cleavinger took the mound and immediately allowed a single to Rafaela. Then Jarren Duran unloaded, a towering two-run homer to right that flipped the score 4–3. Cleavinger got Story to strikeout and a Bregman groundout, but Kevin Cash pulled the plug and turned to Cole Wilcox to get out of the seventh. That didn’t settle things, and the eighth became the nightmare frame.

It started with a double by Gonzalez and an RBI single from Eaton. Then came a stolen base, a walk, a bloop single, another single and suddenly the Red Sox had a three-run lead with bases loaded. A fielder’s choice brought another run, a bases-loaded walk pushed home yet another, and then the defense joined in on the collapse because why not. Tristan Gray missed on a throw that skipped past Bob Seymour that let two more runs score, and by the time Nathaniel Lowe was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, it was 11–3. A six-run implosion that felt like it lasted an entire hour, the kind of inning where you wish there were a game clock that could be run out and end the misery. Then again, the beauty of the game is the absence of a clock and anything being possible.

The Rays went down quickly in the bottom half, and a clean ninth from the Sox seemed inevitable. But the game isn’t over until all the outs are recorded.

Everson Pereira stepped up with the bases loaded in the ninth thanks to two walks and a Seymour single, the Rays trailing by eight. He turned on a pitch and launched it high to the left. The ball carried, it carried some more, and then it was gone. A grand slam, the second of his career, and suddenly the score was 11–7. The dugout erupted, the fans woke up and started drowning out the Red Sox cheers with chants for the Rays. , For one delirious moment, the comeback felt possible. Yandy singled, Mangum singled behind him, and Josh Lowe came up with the tying run on deck. The ballpark, which had been dead quiet fifteen minutes earlier, was overflowing with hope and optimism.

And then, just as suddenly, it ended. Lowe swung through strike three, the Red Sox walking away with an 11–7 win and eliminating the Rays’ longshot hopes for postseason play.
The Rays have two home games left in their stay at Steinbrenner field. These two teams are back at it tomorrow with RHP Adrian Houser (8-4, 3.11) taking the mound for the Rays oppositie LHP Kyle Harrison (1-1, 4.05) for the Red Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.

    Let’s see what tomorrow brings.

  • Boca Raton football downs Forest Hill to extend win streak

Boca Raton football downs Forest Hill to extend win streak

    play

    • Boca Raton High School defeated Forest Hill 28-12 in a non-district football game.
    • The victory marked Boca High’s third consecutive win, improving their season record to 3-1.
    • Running back Adon Elmon secured the win with a 77-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
    • Boca Raton quarterback Mason Chapman connected with receiver Sonny Pepitone for two touchdowns.

BOCA RATON – It was Boca Raton High’s Homecoming on Sept. 19 with a packed house at Bobcats Stadium after a morning pep rally attended by the entire school.

A hot night on Glades Road became the perfect time for the Bobcats to roar and take down Forest Hill 28-12 in a non-district game. The victory moved Boca High’s winning streak to three games and set their record at 3-1.

After a season-opening loss to Boynton Beach, Boca, a two-time defending district champions, looked like it could be in for a long season with its first-year coach Collin O’Neal.

“I think at first we were a little shaky at the start of the year,’’ said wide receiver Geron Miller, a Saint Andrew’s transfer. “We’re coming together as a unit. The O-Line is getter better, my quarterback is making better reads.’’

Quarterback Mason Chapman hit Miller on a slant that resulted in a 41-yard touchdown score in the first quarter that tied the game at 7.

Indeed, Forest Hill, 2-3 under its new head coach Evan Williams, didn’t go down without a fight. The gritty Falcons scored first in taking a 7-0 lead and were within 21-10, driving at the Boca Raton 28-yard line early in the fourth quarter.

“Our guys fought like warriors all night long,’’ said Williams, an assistant coach for 14 seasons at Forest Hill before finally inheriting the top job.

How to nominate and vote for The Palm Beach Post’s Athlete of the Week

The Post’s Athlete of the Week is back for the 2025-26 school year. Here’s a look at how to nominate athletes and vote in polls.

It wasn’t clinched until Boca running back Adon Elmon burst 77 yards for a touchdown with 8:55 left, getting to the sidelines and outsprinting Forest Hill’s defenders. That made it 28-10. “It felt great,” Elmon said. “Was a great play and O-Line did what they had do.”

The Forest Hill coach wished he could have that play back. “No excuses, but the last touchdown we gave up, we were a little gassed,’’ Willaims said. “We have a lot of guys playing both ways.’’

Next week will be a big Boca test with its District 14-7A opener vs. Stoneman Douglas. “I think we’re in a good spot – just got to clean up some things.’’’ Miller said. “I love Mason. He’s the best quarterback I’ve had so far and I was at another school.’’

Boca plays in a district with two Broward County outfits in Stoneman Douglas and Coral Glades in addition to crosstown rival Spanish River.

“I wasn’t dictating our whole season on the very first regular season game,’’ said O’Neal, who took over for the wildly successful Alex Savakinas. “Especially against a good opponent in Boynton Beach. The district title is in our sights. It’s in our hands to capture or lose it. We’ll be ready for it.’’

The Boca offense looked dismal in the season opener but is progressing.

“Our offense is starting to click as a whole in terms of knowing the plays and knowing what some kids can and can’t do,’’ O’Neal said. “Normally defenses pick it up quicker and sooner than the offense.’’

The biggest surprise has been the play of unheralded junior offensive tackle Adrian Lantigua, who had never played football before. “He’s helped us out a lot,’’ O’Neal said.

Boca now has victories over Dwyer (19-13), Lake Worth (34-21) and Forest Hill.

It was a losing night for the Falcons but not without moments as its running lefty quarterback MacVane Cole ran for 101 yards out of the Wing T option.

Cole transferred from Dwyer, where he was a backup. “I love the culture here,’’ Cole said. “They want to win. I love the team camaraderie we bring. I thought I can bring an impact to win.  I know we’ll bounce back from this. This loss doesn’t define us.’’

Forest Hill is not a storied program by any means. Williams, in his 14 seasons, has worked under 5 head coaches – but he’s the fourth head coach in the last six years.

Forest Hill hung around because of three Boca turnovers and Boca’s ill-fated onside kick to start the second half which resulted in a Forest Hill field goal.

But the Bobcats were too talented. The Boca receivers are thriving with Miller, Crew Gibson and Sonny Pepitone, who caught two touchdown passes Friday.

After falling behind 7-0, Boca reeled off three consecutive touchdowns in a span of 11:40. Chapman, despite two interceptions Friday, is finally 100 percnt after an offseason Achilles injury.  Chapman also got banged up in the preseason classic.

“He’s throwing good now,’’ O’Neal said. “We can do a lot more things with him than starting out the season. We can do a lot more getting outside the pocket, rolling out and getting him on the run where we’re comfortable now.’’

Boca defensive end Jacory Noel has been vital. A big sack by Noel for a loss of 12 got Boca the ball back quickly after it tied the score at 7. Chapman then completed a 25-yard strike to Miller, who got slammed in the helmet by a tackle, adding another 15 yards for a personal foul.

Elmon ran for 8 yards and Chapman hit Pepitone for a 4-yard touchdown. Pepitone scored again on a 17-yeard slant to compete the spree with 5:11 left in the half for a  21-7 lead.

Forest Hill struck first for a 7-0 after Chapman got intercepted by McBryan Reese at the Boca 21. Forest Hill put together a long drive, highlighted by a 58-yard run down the sidelines by Jamarkus Emerson. Cole ran it in from the 2 and Boca was behind 4:30 into the contest.

“I think we could’ve won this game,’’ Cole said. “We had a lot of opportunities at the 5-yard line and couldn’t push it through. We played well.

Forest Hill faces its first district match next week – John Carroll. “I’m looking forward to that,’’ Cole said. “I’m 6-2, 190 pounds. I consider myself a power running back. The coach gives me quarterback runs and I take advantage of it. I love modeling my game after Tim Tebow.’’

  • Reds hit 5 home runs to power past Cubs in 7-4 win

Reds hit 5 home runs to power past Cubs in 7-4 win

On a night after they needed only a single run to get past the Cubs thanks to a Hunter Greene shutout, the Cincinnati Reds turned the power on on Friday night and hit a barrage of home runs to take a 7-4 victory in another much needed win. Spencer Steer led the way for the Reds, reaching base 3 times and hitting 2 of the Reds’ 5 home runs on the evening, joining Miguel Andujar, Matt McLain, and Elly De La Cruz who also homered tonight.

The firepower was needed tonight, as Reds’ starter Nick Lodolo labored through his outing tonight. He dealt with base runners all night and had trouble with the long ball himself, as the Cubs scored all 4 of their runs via the long ball. Lodolo, however, was able to limit the damage enough to allow the offense to come back and take the lead for good. In all, Lod0lo threw 4.2 innings and allowed 4 runs on 9 hits with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. He exited the game in the top of the 5th with 2 runners on, but Connor Phillips was able to get Dansby Swanson to line out on his first pitch to end the inning.

The big inning for the Reds came in the bottom of the 6th. With the game tied 4-4, Austin Hays hit an infield single with 1 out. That brought up Spencer Steer, who hit his second home run of the night over the wall in left-center to give the Reds a 6-4 lead. The Reds weren’t done there, as Elly De La Cruz mis-hit a ball over the wall in left to end his 43(!) game homerless streak and give the Reds a 7-4 lead.

Enough can’t be said about the performance of the bullpen tonight. After Lodolo’s night ended early, Connor Phillips, Nick Martinez, Tony Santillan, and Emilio Pagan combined to allow only 3 base runners over the last 4.1 innings to preserve the victory. Those are exactly the performances the Reds need at this point of the season to keep their playoff hopes alive, especially on a night where the ball seemed to be flying out of the park.

Tonight’s win, at worst, keeps the Reds 2 games back of the New York Mets for the final Wild Card spot. At the time of this writing, the Mets lead the Washington Nationals 8-6 in the 7th inning. The Arizona Diamondbacks and San Francisco Giants have yet to start their games tonight. Isn’t it fun to watch scoreboards at the end of September?

The Reds and Cubs go at it again tomorrow. Zack Littell (9-8, 3.86 ERA) starts for the Reds and will face off against Javier Assad (3-1, 4.23 ERA) with first pitch scheduled for 6:40 PM EDT. Go Reds!

  • High school football: Top quarterbacks off to a hot start this season

High school football: Top quarterbacks off to a hot start this season

The nation’s top 2026 quarterbacks have largely lived up to their lofty billing through the first few weeks of the high school football season.

A few have unfortunately suffered injuries — including a couple of the season-ending variety — but others have carried their teams to hot starts. That includes a handful of highly coveted five-stars, but a few less ballyhooed passers have outpaced their already high expectations as well.

Rivals dives into the stats below:

    High School: Nashville Christian (Tenn.)
    Stats: 42/60 (70%), 515 yards, 7 TD
    28 CAR, 193 YDS, 3 TD

Curtis has lived up to the billing as one of the nation’s premier quarterbacks early in his senior year, leading the Eagles to an undefeated 4-0 start.

    5-star Dia Bell – Texas

    High School: American Heritage (Fla.)
    Stats: 42/68 (61.8%) 522 yards, 4 TD

Bell opened the season with a couple strong performances, but is sidelined for the rest of his senior campaign due to an injury.

    High School: Grimsley (N.C.)
    Stats: 22/31 (73.3%), 155 yards, 1 TD
    13 CAR, 62 YDS, 1 TD

Brandon, one of the top overall prospects not only in North Carolina but nationally, has struggled with injuries so far. With only one game under his belt, Brandon is looking to get back on the field soon.

High School: Legacy School of Sports Sciences (Texas)
    Stats: 56/75 (75%), 1,176 yards, 15 TD
    11 CAR, 181 YDS, 2 TD

Henderson put on one of the most memorable Texas high school football performances in recent memory against Port Arthur two weeks ago. He finished 30 of 38 for 517 yards and rushed for 116 more while accounting for six touchdowns.

    High School: Folsom (Calif.)
    Stats: 79/105 (75.2%), 999 yards, 9 TD

The California five-star has been deadly accurate through Folsom’s first few games, leading the Bulldogs to a 3-1 record and a state top-10 ranking.

    High School: Corner Canyon (Utah)
    Stats: 76/102 (63.3%), 1,399 yards, 16 TD
    32 CAR, 231 YDS, 5 TD

The future Aggie has been lighting it up for Utah powerhouse Corner Canyon, already throwing 16 touchdowns and rushing for five more. The Chargers are Utah’s No. 1 ranked team after five weeks and sport an unblemished 5-0 record.

    High School: Moeller (Ohio)
    Stats: 76/110 (69%), 864 yards, 12 TDs
    17 CAR, 59 YDS, 1 TD

A two-sport standout, Ponatoski has been electric on the gridiron this fall for Ohio powerhouse Moeller. In doing so, he has helped them pull off wins over Kentucky’s No. 1 team and a top-10 CPA team out of Nashville.
