Milan City Council Greenlights the Sale of San Siro

San Siro will be purchased by Milan and Inter for roughly €200M following a dramatic vote by the City Council, which ended with 24 in favor and 20 against. Neither the ruling coalition nor the opposition was compact in their midst, La Repubblica informs.

The Mayor Giuseppe Sala is a big proponent of the plan, but not all his allies are on the same page. The deliberation wouldn’t have passed without some help from across the aisle. Forza Italia, the party founded by former Rossoneri owner Silvio Berlusconi, abstained. So did other members of the local government who were on the fence.

The body approved some ancillary amendments to the project, but nothing drastic. Milan and Inter recently hired architects Norman Foster and David Manica to build the new San Siro. They have contributed to the master plans for the Wembley Stadium area, Apple Park in Cupertino, Beijing’s and Hong Kong’s airports, and the Millennium Bridge in London.

According to Corriere della Sera, the new arena will be initially erected near the current one. It will have 71.5k seats. The whole blueprint will be unveiled at a later date. It’ll comprise office buildings, restaurants, shops, hotels, and parking spaces, as well as an 80k square meter green area that will be returned to the City.

The Giuseppe Meazza will be torn down almost entirely when the new one is ready, with 10 percent of it possibly being part of a museum. The timetable forecasts to complete the construction in 2031, in time for the Euro that Italy and Turkey will host. The project cleared the biggest hurdle, but will likely face some appeals.

OM: Roberto De Zerbi calms things down around Amine Gouiri

Transferred to Olympique de Marseille last winter and impressive in the second half of the season, Amine Gouiri is currently going through a much tougher spell. Sometimes benched, repositioned as a number 10, or replaced up front by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the Algerian international is experiencing the worst start to a season in his career from a statistical standpoint. In six matches played, he has neither scored nor provided a single assist—a stark contrast to his deadly efficiency just a few months earlier.

De Zerbi urges patience and backs his player

Fully aware of his striker’s struggles, Roberto De Zerbi refuses to give in to external pressure. At a press conference, the Italian coach defended his player:

“Amine, you shouldn’t listen to the critics. You haven’t scored, but you defended, you helped the team. The goals will come.”

For De Zerbi, Gouiri remains a perfect complement to Aubameyang, capable of bringing more than just finishing: build-up play, defensive effort, and teamwork. The coach also reminds everyone that last season, the Franco-Algerian delivered crucial goals, including a memorable acrobatic bicycle kick.

Between doubt and the need to bounce back

At 25, Gouiri stands at a crossroads. His trajectory at OM will depend on his ability to overcome this goal drought and rediscover the confidence that once made him so effective. The competition from Aubameyang, a proven scorer, adds extra pressure, but De Zerbi insists on the importance of rotation and each player’s role. For the Algerian international, it’s no longer just about scoring—it’s about proving he can be a pillar of Marseille’s project. Marseille, searching for consistency, will need the real Gouiri back to remain competitive on all fronts.

    Interview

Liverpool still has big ambitions. But to stay in the title race, Salah will need to quickly rediscover his spark.

Liverpool: Alan Shearer explains Mohamed Salah's dip in form

Liverpool: Alan Shearer explains Mohamed Salah’s dip in form

Liverpool suffered their first defeat of the season, falling 2-1 away to Crystal Palace. And for Alan Shearer, one thing is clear: Mohamed Salah is not playing with his usual confidence.

Liverpool remains strong in the league, with five wins from six matches. But beneath those results, questions linger about their performances. Despite a blockbuster transfer window bringing in Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, the team is still struggling to find its balance. Wirtz, signed for a record fee, has yet to score or provide an assist in the Premier League.

As for Salah, he has yet to recapture the clinical edge that defined his previous season. Shearer, the legendary Newcastle and England striker, summed it up on the The Rest is Football podcast:

Salah doesn’t look confident. This isn’t the Salah we know yet. It will change eventually, but for now, Liverpool’s attack just isn’t clicking the way it should.

According to Shearer, the attacking trio of Isak, Wirtz, and Salah still hasn’t found the right chemistry. The Reds often leave it late to score, but their overall impression remains mixed.

  • Everton star Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall blasts ‘mind-boggling’ call after one-match ban

Everton star Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall blasts ‘mind-boggling’ call after one-match ban

Everton played out a 1-1 draw with West Ham United at the Hill Dickinson Stadium as the Toffees struggled to capitalise on their opponents’ poor form.

Everton looked blunt up top against a resilient West Ham that fought bravely for a deserved point.

David Moyes’ side will be disappointed that they could not secure all three points.

The Toffees will also be equally disappointed after midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall picked up a fifth yellow card of the season.

Dewsbury-Hall was adjudged to have brought down Kyle Walker-Peters and got a yellow, but the Everton man clearly had eyes for the ball only.

It was the second contentious yellow card he had received after picking up a booking in the Merseyside derby for seemingly taking a quick free-kick, although there might have been dissent involved.

Still, Dewsbury-Hall was clearly unhappy that he would miss Sunday’s game against Crystal Palace and hit out.

The former Chelsea and Leicester City star said (via Twitter), “Forgive me if I’m wrong, and I might be, but some of these decisions are so hard to take. Mind-boggling.”

Everton will now have to adjust without Dewsbury-Hall as they prepare for what is already shaping up to be a crucial clash with unbeaten Crystal Palace.

It will be interesting to see which one of Tyler Dibling or Carlos Alcaraz Moyes calls upon to deputise for the 27-year-old.

Signed for big money, Dibling has struggled to get going in Merseyside but might benefit from a more central role.

Meanwhile, Alcaraz, the more dogged and experienced option, is also available.

The Toffees must be wary of the Eagles, who are on a remarkable 18-game unbeaten run that has seen them claim scalps against Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.

Palace have also won the FA Cup and the Community Shield during that impressive run. They are hard as nails and a complex puzzle to decipher.

  • LeBron James on what he worked on during the offseason

LeBron James on what he worked on during the offseason

LeBron James is heading into uncharted waters. Not only is he about to start his 23rd season, which will set a new NBA record, but for the first time, he will not be the best or most important player on his team. That title now belongs to the 26-year-old Luka Doncic.

As a result, James will have to play off the ball more often, as Doncic has become the Los Angeles Lakers‘ head honcho on offense. At media day on Monday, the 40-year-old joked about how he picked up golf this offseason, but he also said he worked on catch-and-shoot 3-pointers, presumably in anticipation of playing off the ball more than ever.

One of the keys to James’ unprecedented longevity has been the recent improvement in his 3-point shooting. In his first 20 seasons, he shot a mediocre 34.5% from 3-point range, but last season, he made 37.6% of his attempts from that distance, and the season before that, he was at 41%.

As his athleticism continues to wane, having the ability to consistently hit treys, whether they’re the catch-and-shoot variety or contested treys off the dribble, will be critical to his attempts to remain a superstar-level player.

Joe Buck says Bengals noncompetitive vs Broncos

    play

As the Cincinnati Bengals fell to 2-2 with an ugly 28-3 loss to the Denver Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High on Monday Night Football, Monday Night Football’s Joe Buck and Troy Aikman talked about their impressions of the Bengals’ lackluster effort.

“If you’re Zac Taylor, you’re gonna have to find a way to hold this thing together,” Buck said. “They’ve got more penalties than first downs tonight. … If you’ve got Jake Browning at quarterback, you cannot play a game like this around him with all the mistakes and expect to compete. And they just frankly after their first possession, didn’t compete.”

“No,” Aikman said. “Now they’re gonna clean this up and have a better outing against Detroit, who’s rolling? Good luck with that. This has been an embarrassing effort by the Cincinnati Bengals. Shouldn’t take away from what Denver was able to do. … This game was over essentially when Bo Nix threw the touchdown to make it 21-3.”

“This was an embarrassing effort,” Aikman continued. “I think Zac Taylor will be the first to tell you there was nothing that you walk out of this stadium feeling good about. So where do you start? Gosh, how about let’s just start with not being penalized so much, pre-snap, which is kinda what they teach you back in Pop Warner football. … For an organization that’s been so good offensively for so many years … there’s not a lot to get excited about right now.”

  • Darren Waller has 2 TDs, Dolphins beat Jets 27-21 but lose Tyreek Hill to serious leg injury

Darren Waller has 2 TDs, Dolphins beat Jets 27-21 but lose Tyreek Hill to serious leg injury

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Darren Waller had a pair of touchdown catches in his first NFL game in nearly two years, and Tua Tagovailoa threw for 177 yards to lead the Miami Dolphins to their first win of the season, 27-21 over the New York Jets on Monday night.

The Dolphins lost star receiver Tyreek Hill to what appeared to be a serious knee injury in the third quarter. The five-time All-pro made a catch and land awkwardly on his left leg after being tackled near the New York Jets’ sideline. Players from both teams took a knee while Hill was tended to, and he was immediately carted off and taken to a hospital.

Tagovailoa completed 17 of 25 passes and didn’t have a turnover for the first time this season as he moved to 7-0 against the Jets as Miami’s starter. The Dolphins (1-3) won their 10th straight at home against the Jets (0-4), who are still searching for their first win under coach Aaron Glenn.

The Jets pulled within six with 1:49 left when Garrett Wilson hauled in a 23-yard jump ball from Justin Fields, who ran it in for a 2-point conversion.

After recovering the onside kick, the Dolphins went three-and-out while working the clock to 13 seconds. Miami then pinned the Jets on their own 1, and the game ended on a play where New York tried a series of laterals, one of which was flagged as an illegal forward pass.

Waller, playing his first game since the end of the 2023 season, caught a 4-yard pass in the back of the end zone from Tagovailoa on fourth-and-goal in the second quarter of his Dolphins debut. The 33-year-old scored again on a 9-yard catch in the third that put Miami ahead 17-3. He finished with three receptions for 27 yards.

The Dolphins amassed 123 yards rushing behind De’von Achane’s 20 carries for 99 yards. Achane had a 9-yard scoring run.

Fields completed 20 of 27 passes for 226 yards in his return from a concussion that sidelined him in Week 3. He added 81 yards rushing, including a 43-yard scramble for a score on fourth-and-1 that pulled the Jets within a touchdown midway through the third.

The Jets gained 197 of their 404 yards with a highly effective ground game — they averaged 7 yards per carry — but turned the ball over three times and were penalized 13 times, including an offensive pass interference against Wilson that wiped out a touchdown in the third.

On their first drive, which started on their own 14, the Jets ran the ball 10 times for 74 yards before Braelon Allen had the ball punched out by Dolphins cornerback Jack Jones near the goal line. Minkah Fitzpatrick recovered for Miami’s first takeaway of the season.

Fields had the ball stripped on a sack the next drive, and Dante Trader recovered receiver Isaiah Williams’ fumble on the first play of the third quarter.

Jets veteran Nick Folk made two field goals: a career-long 58-yarder and another of 50 yards.

    Rivalry uniforms

The Dolphins, whose regular uniforms are among the most recognizable in the NFL, debuted an alternate, dark blue ensemble. The jerseys feature Miami’s signature aqua blue lined with orange stripes on the helmet, pants and sleeves.

    Injuries

Jets: RB Braelon Allen suffered a knee injury after kick return in second quarter and did not return. … DB Michael Carter II left before halftime with a concussion.

Dolphins: The team said Hill was hospitalized “for imaging, evaluation and observation.”

    Up next

    Jets: Host Dallas on Sunday.

    Dolphins: At Carolina on Sunday.

  • Roman Reigns returns to Raw

    Roman Reigns returns to Raw

The last time we saw Roman Reigns on WWE television, he was being laid out by The Vision just after defeating Bronson Reed at Clash in Paris in late August. The OTC needed time off to go film his part in the upcoming Street Fighter movie, so he took a month away from WWE while The Usos, Jimmy & Jey, have been dealing with Bron Breakker & Bronson Reed in the meantime.

Indeed, Reigns returned on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw in North Carolina, laying waste to The Vision and giving his family the edge in their tag team main event match. The Usos would go on to win said match, of course.

Perhaps more interesting is the way Reigns so clearly endorsed Jey after the fact. That’s the same Jey who has been exhibiting more and more behavior of a certain Tribal Chief during his reign of terror, with Roman telling him “ain’t nobody going to give it to you, you have to take it.”

All while Jimmy looked on in the background.

The Bloodline story hasn’t finished just yet, folks.
