Coming off its biggest win of the season, followed by a bye week, No. 20 Michigan returns to the gridiron this afternoon, hosting Wisconsin in a Big Ten Conference clash.

As usual, a capacity crowd is expected at Michigan Stadium, as students and Wolverines fans get set for a “Maize Out” at the Big House for homecoming week. Michigan (3-1, 1-0 Big Ten) defeated Nebraska, 30-27, on the road in their last action, while Wisconsin (2-2, 0-1) is coming off back-to-back losses to Alabama (38-14) and Maryland (27-10).

Here are the official starting XIs for today’s Bundesliga clash between Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig.

After their hefty 4-1 win against Athletic Club on Wednesday, Borussia Dortmund return to Bundesliga duty as they host RB Leipzig this afternoon at the Westfalenstadion.

Serhou Guirassy has been confirmed as fit to start after doubts midweek while Nico Schlotterbeck returns to the backline. Antonio Nusa gets the nod on the left flank for the visitors.

The unbeaten Miami Hurricanes, led by superstar quarterback Carson Beck, will head to Tallahassee to play Florida State University in an ACC game on Saturday night. Beck, now in his first year at Miami after four seasons with the Georgia Bulldogs, is looking forward to the intrastate rivalry game, saying of the 60,000-plus crowd expected at Doak Campbell Stadium, “It’s going to be an electric environment. Darts has hit the jackpot with Luke Littler, and so have his rivals.

The Littler effect is still coursing through a sport that has been catapulted into the mainstream largely thanks to a teenage phenom who is bringing new audiences to darts.

Lots more money, too.

The upcoming world championship — where Littler will be defending champion after winning it as a 17-year-old in January — has doubled the prize money for the winner and in the overall pot.

The title prize fund handed out in events run by the top-tier Professional Darts Corporation has risen by more than a third this season, to 25 million pounds ($33.7 million).

One of those events is the World Grand Prix, a so-called “major” in darts that is taking place in Leicester, England, starting Monday and where Belgium’s Mike De Decker is the titleholder.

“The rise of Luke has definitely been a good thing for the sport,” De Decker said on a video call. “You can see with the prize money bumped up to a million (pounds) for the winner in the worlds.

“It’s mainly because of him. Because he attracts more people to the sport.”

Just like with golf (Tiger Woods) and snooker (Ronnie O’Sullivan), darts has a player who is transcending a sport that was already on the rise.

Indeed, De Decker believes it has truly gone global and is no longer just big in its traditional heartlands of Britain and the Netherlands.

“I played the World Series in Australia and New Zealand and the venue was packed there as well. That’s the other side of the world,” De Decker said. “It’s getting bigger everywhere.”

De Decker has noticed that darts has been booming in his native Belgium for the past four to five years. Winning the World Grand Prix, for his first-ever major title, saw him follow in the footsteps of compatriot Dimitri van den Bergh in competing for the top events in the sport.

He said he now gets recognized in the street, asked for pictures and has earned better sponsorship deals. It even allowed him to buy a house a few months ago.

“It’s been a real change in my life,” he said.

On how it changed him as a player, the 20th-ranked De Decker — who had never before reached the semifinals at a major — added: “It definitely made me more complete, on stage. Before that tournament, I wasn’t really getting results in big TV tournaments, I was basically a very good floor tournament player but as soon as the cameras came on, I kind of buckled. That tournament made me realize I can play on stage as well.”

Now the quest is to win titles and compete at Littler’s standard more consistently.

“There’s people he brought into darts so it’s a good thing he has bumped it up,” De Decker said. “And it definitely means we have to up our level to compete with him so it’s not that easy for him to keep winning titles.

“It has been a big change in the darts world.”

A poor start to the 2.Bundesliga campaign could ultimately cost the F95 coach his job.

Fortuna Düsseldorf’s head coach Daniel Thioune could be facing the chop if the club’s fortunes don’t change soon. 

With lofty pre-season ambitions for promotion, Fortuna has endured a weak start to the new 2.Bundesliga season.

After eight games, they have only amassed ten points and find themselves sat in a rather disappointing 10th-place in the table.

Already under pressure before last night’s match, the 3-2 defeat to 14th-placed Nürnberg may have been the final straw for Thioune.

“I said that the coach also had a part in this, just like all of us,” said club sporting director Klaus Allofs after the match.

“We will sit down together in the next few days, try to analyze the situation again, and see what’s best for the team’s development.”

The match against Nuremberg was “not a final” for Thioune, “but it is still our duty to continually re-evaluate it,” Allofs said.

However, it’s possible that the coach will get another chance against Eintracht Braunschweig on Friday evening, 17 October.
 

Despite a plethora of significant injuries, the Pittsburgh Steelers received some good news for a change — regarding the overall condition of WR Calvin Austin III’s shoulder.

On Thursday, The Athletic’s Mike DeFabo reported a positive update on Calvin Austin — specifically providing good news in the form of negative X-ray results.

“X-rays on Calvin Austin III’s shoulder came back negative, according to a league source, which is good news,” DeFabo wrote. “I do not know yet if he’ll miss time with the injury or not.”

Last Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, Austin injured his shoulder in the fourth quarter and was quickly ruled out. He was ultimately hospitalized for the injury, leaving many initially frightened at the severity of his setback.

Regarding a possible return timeline, Steelers insider Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Austin was expected to miss multiple weeks — which makes this bye week even more important for his overall recovery.

From cheering against a new-look divisional rival to several games with AFC standings at stake, here are four matchups for Steelers fans to watch during Week 5’s bye.

Vikings vs. Browns, 9:30 a.m. EDT

The Steelers will get their first glimpse at the new-look Cleveland offense as Dillon Gabriel leads his Browns against the Vikings in London — the perfect scouting opportunity ahead of Pittsburgh’s Week 6 AFC divisional battle.

Fans need to cheer on the Raiders in this matchup — as a loss to the 3-1 Colts will help the Steelers climb atop the AFC mountain. Additionally, the continued career resurgence of Daniel Jones in Indianapolis will eventually lead him to a collision course with Pittsburgh — when the Steelers host the Colts in Week 9.

Patriots vs. Bills, 8:20 p.m. EDT (SNF)

As difficult as it may be, Steelers Nation needs to root for New England on Sunday Night Football this week, as the 4-0 Bills are one of the few teams standing in the way of Pittsburgh’s desired No. 1 spot in the AFC. After the Patriots’ dominant 42-13 win over the Panthers in Week 4, a win over Buffalo isn’t as far-fetched as some believe.

Chiefs vs. Jaguars, 8:15 p.m. EDT (MNF)

Two current AFC powerhouses sitting at 3-1 — a Monday Night Football matchup that, barring a tie, will push Pittsburgh ahead in the conference standings. The Steelers won’t play against either the Chiefs or the Jaguars this regular season, but the future playoff implications make this a must-watch matchup.

We were not able to make it to Countdown to Craziness, but as usual, it was a hit. You can see the player introduction here and there was a bonus as Jayson Tatum was also introduced after the current team came out. Tatum is rehabbing from his Achilles injury and his return to Cameron was a nice touch and a very cool nod to the power of the Brotherhood. We’re not sure what this is about exactly, buy Jon Scheyer said that Tatum “will be helping Duke out” this year.

The other stuff is fun, but the best part of the night is the scrimmage.

The White team was Cameron and Cayden Boozer, Dame Sarr, Iffy Ufochukwu and Darren Harris while the Blue team was Caleb Foster, Isaiah Evans, Patrick Ngongba II, Sebastian Wilkins and Nikolas Khamenia.

Not surprisingly, the Blue team, the more experienced team, won 34-24. The defense was better than the offense, which is also not surprising and really good. Not many guys shot that well, but Patrick Ngongba was 3-3 and Nik Khamenia shot 3-4.

Blue dominated the boards, 15-8. White only got one offensive rebound, and that one was by Ufochukwu.

There were certainly some jitters by the young players, but that’s nothing new. It’s a big deal to play in Cameron but it takes some getting used to the huge adrenaline rush.

All in all though, we saw a deep Duke team, and this was without Maliq Brown, who will be sitting out a bit longer.

We’ll get a better idea of what this team has when Johnny Dawkins becomes the next great to return to Cameron, bringing his Central Florida team north on October 21st.
