    Practice squad elevations vs. Panthers

Atlanta will not elevate any practice squad players for Sunday’s game against Carolina.

The Atlanta Falcons (1-1) announced zero practice squad elevations for their Week 3 matchup against the Carolina Panthers (0-2). Each team is allowed to elevate up to two players from its 16-man practice squad for each game. Aside from A.J. Terrell‘s injury, Atlanta is in decent shape health-wise.

In other Falcons roster news, the team released kicker Younghoe Koo and signed Parker Romo to the 53-man roster on Friday. Koo had been with the team since 2019 but was benched before Sunday’s win over the Minnesota Vikings.

Instead, Atlanta elevated Romo from the practice squad but still kept Koo on the roster for another week. After going 5-for-5 against the Vikings on Sunday night, Romo officially secured the starting kicker job going forward.

Koo thanked the Falcons organization on his personal Instagram page following his release on Friday:

I want to thank the Falcons organization for giving me an opportunity when no one else would six years ago. This place helped me grow as a kicker and as a man. I will forever be grateful for the support from the fans during my time here. I have nothing but love and respect for everyone in the building, I wish y’all the best. I’m full of gratitude and excitement as I continue my journey in this league. Younghoe Koo

  • Iconic Motorsport Liveries Ranked

    Iconic Motorsport Liveries Ranked

Iconic motorsport liveries have the power to turn racing machines into legends. From Le Mans prototypes to Formula 1 champions, the right paint scheme can define an era and embed itself in pop culture within seconds of crossing the start line.

Over the decades, six paint jobs have risen above the rest, capturing the imagination of fans worldwide and influencing every car that followed. Here’s our ranking of the most famous and loved racing liveries ever seen on track.

A note, before you read any further, is that this list is biased to some of my personal favorites, but it is in no means complete.

    1. Gulf Oil Porsche 917

The pale blue and bright orange Gulf livery first appeared on the Porsche 917 at the 1968 24 Hours of Le Mans, standing out against a sea of factory whites and Reds. Its contrasting hues highlighted the 917’s sleek bodywork, creating one of endurance racing’s most photographed icons.

Today, Gulf stripes grace modern Porsche heritage models and race replicas, proving this scheme’s timeless appeal.

    2. Martini Racing

Martini’s dark blue, light blue, and red bands first wrapped a Porsche 917 in 1971 before spreading across Lancia’s rally monsters and Porsche’s 935s. Those elegant stripes draped over vastly different chassis, uniting endurance and rally under a single, sophisticated banner.

The minimalist yet bold motif projects speed and class, cementing Martini as a favorite for collectors and race fans alike.

    3. John Player Special Lotus 72

Lotus 79 (1978 – John Player Special Livery)

According to Classic Team Lotus, when Team Lotus debuted the black-and-gold John Player Special livery on the Lotus 72 in 1972, it transformed Formula 1 aesthetics overnight. The sleek black base with sharp gold accents emphasized the 72’s angular lines, giving it a stealthy presence that matched its on-track dominance.

Driven by Emerson Fittipaldi and later Ronnie Peterson, JPS became synonymous with F1’s golden era and tobacco sponsorship’s lavish flair.

    4. Marlboro McLaren MP4/4

    1988 McLaren MP4/4
Image Credit: 1988 McLaren MP4-4/ Honda.

Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost made the red-and-white Marlboro McLaren MP4/4 the most successful F1 car in history in 1988. The vibrant red engine cover and roof contrasted against pure white sidepods, creating a clean yet aggressive look that dominated television screens.

This graphic simplicity ensured sponsor logos popped and embedded the MP4/4’s silhouette in the minds of millions.

    5. BMW M Motorsport

    BMW M1 Procar

BMW’s iconic tri-color stripes of blue, violet, and red first adorned the 3.0 CSL in the early 1970s before becoming a fixture on touring cars and prototypes. The dynamic stripes slicing over white bodywork conveyed motion and engineering precision, a motif later adopted by street-legal M models worldwide.

These colors symbolize performance across road and track, making them instantly recognizable.

    6. Red Bull Racing

Red Bull RB9 (2013 – Infiniti Purple Era)

Since its 2005 Formula 1 debut, Red Bull Racing’s dark blue and yellow matte-finish livery has stood out on every circuit. The aggressive bull graphic and bold color contrast mirror the team’s high-energy branding and youthful spirit.

Its modern blend of graphic art and aerodynamics ensures each RB car looks fast even in pictures, an instant identifier in the digital age.

    Final Thoughts

These six liveries did more than decorate cars; they forged emotional bonds between teams, drivers, and fans. Each paint scheme became shorthand for an era of racing excellence, whether at Le Mans, Monte Carlo, or the streets of the Monaco Grand Prix.

As technology and regulations evolve, new liveries will emerge, but these designs remain the benchmarks of motorsport artistry. Vote for your favorite livery in the comments, which paint scheme reigns supreme.

  • Texas Tech QB out for remainder of game vs Utah

Texas Tech QB out for remainder of game vs Utah

    play

As Texas Tech football tries to pull off a road win in its biggest game of the 2025 season, it will have to do so without a key player.

Red Raiders quarterback Behren Morton left No. 16 Texas Tech’s game against No. 18 Utah on Saturday, Sept. 20 at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City with an injury.

With his team holding on to a 10-3 lead, Morton rushed for a 10-yard gain on a second-and-28 on the fourth play from scrimmage in the second half. As he was going down, Morton absorbed a huge hit from Utah linebacker Johnathan Hall.

Morton left the game and was replaced by backup quarterback Will Hammond.

Here’s the latest on Morton’s injury:

    Behren Morton injury update

After leaving the field, Morton was taken to the Texas Tech locker room, where he was examined by team medical personnel.

He has been ruled out for the remainder of the game, according to Fox sideline reporter Jenny Taft. It’s unclear what injury Morton suffered.

The hit from Hall was initially ruled targeting, but the call was overturned after video review.

Prior to his injury, Morton had completed 12 of 19 passes for 142 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. Both of Morton’s interceptions came in Utah territory, with the second coming in the end zone as Texas Tech was driving and trying to extend what was then a 7-0 lead.

  • Azerbaijan Grand Prix: ‘Lando Norris misses opportunity in chaotic Baku qualifying’

Azerbaijan Grand Prix: ‘Lando Norris misses opportunity in chaotic Baku qualifying’

The main focus of the grand prix will be on what the McLarens can do from their lowly starting positions.

The team can clinch their second consecutive constructors’ championship on Sunday. To do so, they need to outscore Ferrari by nine points and not be outscored by Mercedes by 12 points and Red Bull by 33.

At the start of the weekend, that looked like a slam dunk. Not so much any more, even if there is no doubt they will win it in the end.

At the front, Verstappen is likely to dominate. Carlos Sainz, in the Williams, starts second with Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson third, followed by the Mercedes of Kimi Antonelli and George Russell, who has been ill all weekend. Verstappen’s Red Bull team-mate Yuki Tsunoda lines up sixth.

With a bunch of slower cars between them, Verstappen would be expected to be too far ahead to challenge by the time Norris and Piastri move up to the front, if they even can.

The mixed-up grid should lead to an eventful race, with the McLarens and Ferraris trying to make progress.

And at McLaren, Verstappen’s return to form in Monza, followed by pole this weekend, has increased their concern about his threat on a championship basis.

That’s even despite the fact that, at 96 points behind Piastri, the four-time champion would have to close at an average of 12 points a race to get level by the end of the season.

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella was asked after qualifying whether he saw Verstappen as a factor in the championship.

He said: “A firm yes. Can you write it capital? Because it was quoted capital.

“We don’t have to forget that, first of all, it’s Max Verstappen. World champion for the last four years, in a fast car.

“There are races where McLaren may not enjoy any advantage from a competitiveness point of view.

“And also Lando and Oscar, they are always there, so they will not necessarily be maximising the points available. Sometimes there will be a little bit more points for Lando, a little bit more points for Oscar, so they may take some points away from each other.

“We are very aware of this aspect, but we let them race, because they both deserve to pursue their aspirations. Therefore, yes, Verstappen and Red Bull in contention for the drivers’ championship.”

  • Nets point guard position preview for 2025-26 NBA season

Nets point guard position preview for 2025-26 NBA season

The Brooklyn Nets are heading into the 2025-26 NBA season with the expectation of being one of the worst teams in the league amidst the early stages of the rebuild. Brooklyn did not do much in the way of improving the roster for the goal of making it to the playoffs, but they made various moves to set the franchise up for maximizing the draft process.

The Nets appear to be set at the shooting guard (Cam Thomas), small forward (Michael Porter Jr.), and center (Nic Claxton), while the point guard and power forward positions still have to be figured out. When it comes to the point guard spot, Brooklyn overhauled the position by essentially drafting three point guards in the 2025 NBA Draft in Egor Demin, Nolan Traore, and Ben Saraf.

Ironically enough, point guard was one position that the Nets have been shifting around for the past few seasons once Kyrie Irving was traded to the Dallas Mavericks during the 2022-23 season. With that being said, the Nets head into the upcoming season with some questions to answer at the point guard spot so here is the preview of what fans can expect in the 2025-26 campaign:

    Starter: Egor Demin

As of this writing, it seems that Demin is going to be the starter given how he performed in the Las Vegas Summer League in July after being taken with the eighth overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. There is a chance that players like Tyrese Martin and Danny Wolf could see some time at the point guard spot depending on how head coach Jordi Fernandez wants to tinker with certain lineups.

Demin, 19, will have to address certain issues in his game when it comes to his ability to spread the floor with his shooting and create opportunities for himself off the dribble. In Las Vegas, Demin might have turned down the volume on the noise surrounding his shooting, but his inability to put pressure on the rim without getting a screen was concerning to see. He will have to figure it out on the fly.

Depth: Kobe Bufkin, Nolan Traore, Ben Saraf

In what looked to be a three-man battle for the starting point guard spot, Brooklyn turned up the heat on the situation by trading cash considerations in exchange for guard Kobe Bufkin. Bufkin, 22, is a former first-round pick that didn’t have much of a chance to succeed with the Atlanta Hawks sitting behind Trae Young, but his talent could give him the second-best odds to win the starting point guard job behind Demin.

Traore and Saraf are essentially competing for the third spot in the point guard rotation and with all of the players healthy, whoever is the fourth in the rotation may be spending most of his time in the G League. Traore and Saraf showed some good and bad aspects of their game in the summer league, but Traore should have the inside track given his speed and ball-handling ability that could be useful on an NBA floor right away.

  • Freiburg roll over Werder | OneFootball

Werder Bremen were brought back down to earth on Saturday, falling 0-3 at home to SC Freiburg just a week after their emphatic 4-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Vincenzo Grifo fired Freiburg ahead from the penalty spot in the 33rd minute, and the visitors doubled their advantage shortly after the restart when Junior Adamu – making his first start of the season – converted from Grifo’s assist.

Werder had the chance to claw their way back into the contest when awarded a penalty on the hour mark, but Noah Atubolu denied Romano Schmid with a strong save.

Any lingering hopes of a comeback were extinguished in the 75th minute, when Karim Coulibaly turned the ball into his own net to seal Bremen’s fate.

Freiburg’s second consecutive win lifts the Breisgau side up to sixth in the Bundesliga table, while Werder sit 13th.

  • Is he unbeatable? Bundesliga keeper sets new penalty record

Penalty kicks are usually a sure thing for the shooter. However, Noah Atubolu can definitely answer that statement with a NO.

The SC Freiburg keeper has just saved his fifth consecutive Bundesliga penalty in the game against Werder Bremen. To this day, no goalkeeper in the German top-flight football has achieved this. I wonder if shooter Romano Schmid had this in mind before his run-up?

The Werder player certainly didn’t cover himself in glory with his execution.

Max Verstappen on pole and Oscar Piastri crashes in chaotic F1 qualifying in Azerbaijan

BAKU, Azerbaijan (AP) — Max Verstappen took pole position and championship leader Oscar Piastri crashed out in qualifying for Formula 1’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix in a marathon session with constant crashes, rain and six red flags.

Red Bull’s Verstappen was fastest by .478 from Carlos Sainz, Jr. of Williams in a session that ran an hour past its scheduled time, longer than most races. Liam Lawson of Racing Bulls starts Sunday’s race a career-best third.

Piastri slammed into the barrier while chasing pole position on a track left slippery by earlier rainfall. His McLaren teammate Lando Norris was only seventh and couldn’t take full advantage of Piastri’s error.

Piastri qualified ninth ahead of Sunday’s race after Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc also crashed earlier.

  • Happy Birthday Ken Giles | Bluebird Banter

Happy Birthday Ken Giles | Bluebird Banter

    Ken Giles turns 34 today.

When the Blue Jays picked up Giles in the Roberto Osuna trade on July 30, 2018, he came with his baggage. We all saw the video of him hitting himself. The Astros had sent him to the minors when he had a poor start to the 2018 season.

Of course, Osuna’s issues forced the Jays into making the trade, so we expected a discounted return. Along with Giles, the Astros sent David Paulino and Hector Perez.

Paulino pitched 6.2 innings for the Jays in 2018, and we released him in August 2019. He was in the Phillies system for a bit, but he has been out of baseball since the end of the 2021 season.

Perez played one game with the Jays in 2020. Since then, he’s worked in the Reds, Phillies, Orioles, and Rays systems. This year, he’s pitching in China.

In his three years with the Jays, Giles had a 2.83 ERA and 38 saves (with just 1 blown save), which puts him 10th in Blue Jays history.

In 2019, he was injured at the trade deadline, which stopped the Jays from trying to trade him. And, of course, in 2020, he only played four games before missing the rest of the season and then having Tommy John surgery in September.

The Mariners signed Ken to a two-year, $7 million contract before the 2021 season (with a team option for a third year). He pitched 4.1 innings for them in 2022 and was released at the end of the season. Since then, he’s thrown in the Giants and Dodgers systems. This year, he pitched in the minors with the Braves.

In an 8-season MLB career, Giles has a 2.71 ERA in 362 games, with 115 saves.

When he was healthy, he was a lot of fun to watch. He was a sure thing in safe situations. Throwing high 90s fastballs and a wicked slider, he might not have been 100 Miles Giles by the time he was with the Jays, but he still could blow a fastball by a hitter.

Pop was traded to us from the Marlins (along with Anthony Bass) for Jordan Groshans. Bass, as you know, was released earlier this season. As far as I know, no MLB team has picked him up.

Groshans was a prospect I liked a lot. He played 17 games for the Marlins in 2022, hitting .262/.308/.311. This year, he’s played in the A’s and Yankees’ systems.

Pop pitched in 7 games for the Jays last year, with a 1.89 ERA, and 15 this year (funny,

Pop got into a handful of games in 2022 and 2023, but this year, he’s pitched in 55 games with a 5.67 ERA in 46 innings.

    Mickey Klutts turns 70 today,

Mickey played 22 games for the Jays in 1983, his last season in the MLB. He hit .256/.289/.465 while playing mostly third base.

That was the end of an eight-year MLB career. Most of his playing time was with the A’s. He played in 199 games during his career, with a .241/.289/.371 batting line, 14 home runs, 34 walks, and 101 strikeouts.
