Spanish press reports have revealed that several players will indeed leave the team in the coming months, including German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.

A significant shift in stance appears to be underway for Barcelona’s German goalkeeper, Marc-André ter Stegen, according to a report from *Diario Sport* that cites information from Sky Germany.

The veteran shot-stopper is currently in the midst of a long-term absence from the pitch following back surgery. Even before this setback, his role had become uncertain after the summer arrival of new signing Joan García, with the widespread belief being that ter Stegen would no longer be the first-choice goalkeeper under coach Hansi Flick.

This context made his previously reported reluctance to consider a January move somewhat surprising. With the World Cup on the horizon next summer, consistent playing time is crucial for ter Stegen to regain his form and match fitness. Now, fresh reports from Germany suggest a potential change of heart.

  • Legendary coach Duke Roufus dead at 55, leaving MMA world stunned

Legendary coach Duke Roufus dead at 55, leaving MMA world stunned

Renowned MMA combat sports coach Duke Roufus has died.

Roufus, 55, died Thursday night into Friday, according to his longtime business partner Scott Joffe, who announced the news Friday on Facebook. The cause of death was not revealed, though Joffe said Roufus passed away peacefully in his sleep.

“Duke was more than a celebrated trainer and champion kickboxer—he was a mentor, innovator, father and friend whose influence transformed the landscape of mixed martial arts,” Joffe wrote. “His knowledge, charisma, and passion inspired countless fighters to reach heights they never imagined possible. From world champions to first-day students, everyone who crossed his path felt his genuine care and unwavering belief in their potential. His loss leaves an irreplaceable void in the sport and in the hearts of all who knew him.

Roufus was the owner and head instructor of Roufusport MMA in Milwaukee, Wisc., where he coached numerous fighters to achieve MMA greatness, including former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, former Bellator and ONE Championship champion Ben Askren, former Bellator bantamweight champion Sergio Pettis, and perhaps most notably, former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis.

The elder Pettis brother, Anthony, posted an emotional tribute to Roufus on Instagram shortly after news broke of the coach’s death.

“When my dad was killed you took me in and became my father,” Pettis wrote. Together we did the impossible and made it to the top! I will always make you proud. You’ve taught me so much. I will make sure your legacy continues on.”

Roufus was a lifelong martial artist, who rose to notoriety first as a competitor. An elite kickboxer, Roufus competed around the world and captured WKA, WAKO, WKBA, KICK, and IKF titles. After he competed in his final match in 2007, Roufus became one of MMA’s most notable coaches. Students included the aforementioned Woodley, Askren, and Pettis brothers, but also Ben Rothwell, Paul Felder, Jared Gordon, Matt Mitrione, Stephan Bonnar, Maycee Barber, Emmanuel Sanchez, and many others. Additionally, when WWE star C.M. Punk pursued a pro MMA venture, he enlisted Roufus as his head coach.

  • Mariners one win away from World Series after Suarez grand slam beats Jays

Mariners one win away from World Series after Suarez grand slam beats Jays

Eugenio Suarez belted a go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning to lift the Seattle Mariners to a 6-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays and within one win of reaching a first World Series on Friday.

Mariners slugger Cal Raleigh — who led Major League Baseball with 60 home runs — opened the eighth with a towering solo homer that tied it at 2-2.

Jays relief pitcher Brendon Little then walked two and reliever Seranthony Dominguez hit Randy Arozarena to load the bases.

Suarez stepped up with his second home run of the night — a 351-foot blast off a 98-mph fastball into the left field seats.

“This has got to be the biggest home run of my career,” said Suarez, who fell behind in the count by two strikes before turning on the sixth pitch he saw from Dominguez.

“It’s been a while since I had a game like this today,” he said. “It’s awesome to be able to hit that grand slam there and give a win to my team, to the fans.”

The Mariners, the only active MLB franchise never to reach the World Series, took a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven American League Championship Series and will try to close it out on Sunday in Toronto — where they won the first two games of the series before dropping the next two at home.

For the second straight game, the Mariners had taken the lead on a second-inning solo home run, this one by Suarez.

Seattle were still up 1-0 when Mariners manager Dan Wilson opted to lift starting pitcher Bryce Miller after he gave up a single to Addison Barger to open the fifth.

The move backfired when reliever Matt Brash then gave up a two-out double to George Springer that scored Barger.

Brash then walked Nathan Lukes, but struck out Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to end the frame with the score tied 1-1.

The Blue Jays seized the lead in the top of the sixth, when Alejandro Kirk led off with a double.

Ernie Clement smacked a single to right field and Kirk came around to score — the first time this year Kirk scored from second base on a single.

The Blue Jays lost top offensive threat Springer in the top of the seventh when a pitch got away from Bryan Woo and struck Springer hard in the right kneecap.

He crashed to the dirt and after several minutes on the ground tried to take first base before hobbling off under his own power.

The winner of the series will face either the Los Angeles Dodgers or Milwaukee Brewers in the World Series.

The Dodgers were trying to finish off a four-game sweep in the National League Championship Series in Los Angeles on Friday.

  • Lions LB Jack Campbell shrugs off NFL memo flagging his attempts at forcing fumbles: ‘I’m gonna keep punching’

Lions LB Jack Campbell shrugs off NFL memo flagging his attempts at forcing fumbles: ‘I’m gonna keep punching’

The NFL reportedly has concerns about the play of Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell. The Lions don’t seem too worried about it.

Speaking with reporters on Friday, defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard revealed the league issued a memo flagging a play involving Campbell attempting to punch the ball out of the offense’s hands, specifically noting that defenders should be punching at the ball and not the player.

[Yahoo Sports TV is here! Watch live shows and highlights 24/7]

Sheppard defended his player’s conduct, saying he hopes Campbell continues his style of play for the rest of the season:

“Look at Jack. I mean, they just sent out a memo and the tape — I mean, the way Jack is doing it — it’s violent, it’s aggressive, and it’s the way we play. We won’t make excuses, and I hope it continues to show up and I hope it upticks as we progress in the season.”

His response when asked what problem the league had with Campbell:

“Just the emphasis on punching at the ball. They want you to punch at the ball and not the player, whatever that means.”

No specific play was mentioned, but Campbell and the rest of the Lions have indeed been aggressive with punching the ball this season. A successful example:

Campbell himself was asked about the matter later Friday via Audacy’s Will Burchfield. He was… not apologetic:

“I don’t know how many people have played in an NFL game, but when you’re going full speed and you’re trying to get the ball out, punch-outs are hard to come by. So I don’t really care,” he said. “I’m gonna keep punching. And if I miss it, ‘F’ it. Screw it.”

As Campbell understands, the NFL intends to start calling personal fouls on punch-outs that miss the football and serve as body blows, “so I’ll probably have 150 personal fouls by the end of the year, so that’ll be fun,” he cracked.

Per Campbell, the NFL memo didn’t highlight a specific play or technique of his, reportedly adding “They just got mad at me for punching somebody. But, I mean, they got pads on. If anything, it hurt my hand more than the other guy.”

Some outlets have also noted the NFL should have had a much better example than Campbell available. Earlier this month, the San Francisco 49ers iced a game against the Los Angeles Rams when defensive lineman Alfred Collins landed a punch on the facemask of running back Kyren Williams, leading to a fumble.

Punching properly or not, Campbell remains a key part of the Lions defense, leading the team in combined tackles with 56 in six games, along with three tackles for loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

  • Texas A&M Football vs Arkansas winner predicted by USA TODAY Sports

Texas A&M Football vs Arkansas winner predicted by USA TODAY Sports

No. 4 Texas A&M (6-0, 3-0 SEC) will hit the road for the first time in SEC play to take on Arkansas (2-4, 1-2 SEC), as the Aggies have not played in Fayetteville since the 2013 season, and have not lost to the Razorbacks since the 2021 campaign. Texas A&M is the better overall team, but Arkansas interim head coach Bobby Petrino is still one of the best offensive play-callers in the country.

Aided by senior quarterback Taylen Green, who has already thrown for over 1,600 yards and 15 touchdowns, while rushing for over 500 yards, Texas A&M’s defense, which has played at an elite level over the past three games, will be tested, especially in the secondary.

The Aggie offense has also been a consistent threat, averaging over 400 yards per game, aided by starting quarterback Marcel Reed’s improvement as a passer, primarily due to transfer wide receivers KC Concepcion and Mario Craver. Still, Texas A&M’s rushing attack will be without senior running back Le’Veon Moss, who is dealing with an ankle injury, so Rueben Owens, Amari Daniels, and freshman Jamarion Morrow will need to carry the load in the backfield collectively.

Nationally, Texas A&M is considered a touchdown favorite, 7.5 points to be exact, over the Razorbacks, mainly due to the Aggies’ No. 4 ranking and Arkansas’s poor defense. However, with this being Texas A&M’s second road game since defeating Notre Dame in South Bend, the Aggies will likely be on upset alert if the defense does not shut down the Razorbacks early.

USA TODAY Sports’ prediction for Texas A&M vs. Arkansas in Week 8

On Thursday, USA TODAY Sports’ team of college football experts revealed their weekly picks and predictions for every top 25 matchup in Week 8, while Texas A&M vs. Arkansas, which isn’t widely considered one of the top matchups, could end up being the game of the weekend.

Out of the six analysts listed (Eddie Timanus, Paul Myerberg, Matt Hayes, Blake Toppmeyer, Erick Smith, and Jordan Mendoza), only Matt Hayes believes that the Razorbacks will pull off the upset. If it weren’t for potentially rainy conditions, Texas A&M would likely be an even larger favorite.

Texas A&M has not lost in Fayetteville since the 1988 season. While Arkansas is looking to right the ship and attempt to reach bowl game eligibility, the Aggies have much larger postseason goals and need to leave Fayetteville with a win.

Texas A&M vs. Arkansas will kick off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, and will air on ESPN.

  • Slumping at the plate, Ohtani takes mound with chance to ‘make his mark’ on NLCS, Roberts says

Slumping at the plate, Ohtani takes mound with chance to ‘make his mark’ on NLCS, Roberts says

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Shohei Ohtani is in a significant slump at the plate this October. The three-time MVP hasn’t contributed much to the Los Angeles Dodgers with his bat during their otherwise impressive playoff run to the brink of another World Series.

Unlike any other star slugger in roughly the past century, Ohtani also can help his team on the mound — and his manager believes Ohtani will do just that when he pitches in Game 4 of the NL Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday.

“I think this is his opportunity to make his mark on this series, and so we’re going to see his best effort,” Dave Roberts said several hours before Game 4. “I feel good that he’s pitching for us, and there’s going to be some serious focus and compete tonight.”

Roberts said Ohtani has “no limitations” on his second career postseason start, although the manager went on to describe what he called “soft parameters.”

“He’s built up (and) he can throw seven innings,” Roberts said. “I think that I feel comfortable if it looks right to getting him to 100 pitches.”

Ohtani returns to the mound with the defending champion Dodgers on the brink of their fifth World Series appearance in nine years. After rolling to five wins in six playoff games against Cincinnati and Philadelphia, they’ve won their first three over the 97-win Brewers by a combined 10-3 in the NLCS.

But Ohtani is 6 for 38 as the Dodgers’ leadoff hitter in the postseason, The fearsome slugger who was third in the majors with 55 homers during the regular season has just two in the playoffs — both in the Dodgers’ opening win over the Reds on Sept. 30.

Ohtani’s eight-game homer drought is two games shy of his longest in a Dodgers uniform. Although he tripled and scored in the first inning of Game 3 against Milwaukee, that was his only extra-base hit in the last eight games — and just one of his six postseason RBIs came in the past five games.

Ohtani went 2 for 11 with three walks in his first three games against the Brewers.

While his two-way role requires him to do extensive off-field work to stay ready for both jobs, Ohtani probably wouldn’t blame his plate struggles on his pitching responsibilities. In fact, he had pitched in only two games over the past 30 days before Game 4, thanks to the permutations of the Dodgers’ schedule.

In his last regular-season start, Ohtani pitched six scoreless innings of five-hit ball against Arizona on Sept. 23, throwing a season-high 91 pitches. In his MLB postseason mound debut Oct. 4, he gave up three runs over six innings with nine strikeouts to earn the victory in Los Angeles’ 5-3 win at Philadelphia in the division series opener.

Ohtani also will have the motivation of matching his fellow Dodgers mound starters, who have been phenomenal ever since the playoff race got serious.

The Dodgers’ rotation held batters in September to an MLB record-low .173 average for a single month. Since the postseason began, Los Angeles’ four starting pitchers — Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow and Ohtani — had allowed just 10 earned runs while pitching 58 1/3 innings with 71 strikeouts over those nine games.

What’s more, only three Brewers had ever faced Ohtani on the mound heading into Game 4.

“It’s always a little advantage (to the) pitcher when they haven’t seen you before,” Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy said. “

Roberts said Roki Sasaki is available out of the bullpen in Game 4 for what would be his first back-to-back appearances since the rookie rejoined the Dodgers’ roster as a reliever.

Sasaki has been mostly outstanding since he became the Dodgers’ de facto closer, picking up three saves while allowing just two hits and one run in seven innings of relief across six playoff games.

  • Connacht 27-28 Bulls: Ireland’s Mack Hansen injured as Stuart Lancaster’s side fall to Bulls

Connacht 27-28 Bulls: Ireland’s Mack Hansen injured as Stuart Lancaster’s side fall to Bulls

Connacht’s Sean Naughton could not convert Mack Hansen’s 79th-minute try as the western province were beaten 28-27 by the Bulls at Dexcom Stadium.

The replacement fly-half was given two attempts at what would have been the match-winning kick but could make neither at the end of a contest that will leave Ireland head coach Andy Farrell with a huge concern over the fitness of British and Irish Lion Hansen.

The back-three player was helped from the field after appearing to hurt himself in the act of scoring.

The national side travel to Chicago next week before their first Test of the autumn against the All Blacks on 1 November.

Connacht outscored their South African visitors by four tries to three but Naughton’s wayward effort off the tee ensured a second defeat of the young season for Stuart Lancaster’s side.

After a hectic start, Connacht got the first field position of the night thanks to Josh Ioane’s end-over-end kick into the corner.

Connacht turned over the lineout and, after their pack patiently went through the phases, it was worked back to their Kiwi fly-half Ioane who sniped over for a try he converted himself.

However, the celebrations hadn’t yet died down when the Bulls answered back almost immediately.

Canan Moodie drifted off his wing and made ground before offloading to Sebastian de Klerk who seared into the 22. Scrum-half Paul de Wet was on his winger’s shoulder and finished off a scintillating score that Keagan Johannes failed to convert.

Josh Murphy was then given a 20-minute red card on 19 minutes for his reaction to some Bulls provocation at the ruck and Johan Ackermann’s men took advantage through Springbok Willie Le Roux.

The Connacht defensive line was broken once again as the experienced full-back cut through before exchanging passes with the impressive De Klerk and finishing a score that was converted by Johannes to open up a five-point lead that, for all the late dramatics, they would not relinquish.

The visitors were again on the front foot after the restart and, with a penalty advantage, Johannes decided to take the three points and popped over a close-range drop-goal.

However, the hosts were soon back within a point thanks to scrum-half Caolin Blade who finished a Byron Ralston line break despite the attentions of De Klerk and Moodie who were both perhaps fortunate not to be penalised for high tackles.

Lancaster will have been frustrated all evening with his side’s inability to seize on momentum and their weakness in wide areas was exposed by De Klerk once again on 54 minutes.

He teamed up again with De Wet with the scrum-half getting his second and the Bulls’ third try of the evening before another Johannes; penalty stretched the visitors’ advantage to eleven.

The hosts were buoyed on by the home support and the hitherto quiet Shayne Bolton burst into life on 68 minutes with a kick and chase. Neither he nor the backtracking Johannes could control the bouncing ball but Naughton showed excellent footwork to dribble over the try line and dot down.

Johannes and Naughton then exchanged long-range penalties before Connacht surged towards the try-line and a superb finish from Hansen in the corner brought them within a point again as the clock ticked into the red.

Worryingly for Ireland ahead of their trip to Chicago, Hansen stayed down after the try and was later helped onto a cart before leaving the field.

Caitlin Clark set to play in The Annika pro-am on LPGA Tour

As Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark enters her second WNBA off-season, the former Hawkeye star will return to the LPGA’s “The ANNIKA” Pro-Am event at Pelican Golf Club this fall in Belleair, Florida, according to an announcement by the event on Thursday.

Clark, a brand ambassador for Gainbridge Sports, participated in last year’s event, which drew immense attention following her historic rookie campaign that culminated in the WNBA Rookie of the Year Award.

While the Pro-Am portion is obviously not an intense competition by any means, the actual weekend event hosted by World Golf and LPGA Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam is the LPGA Tour’s penultimate event for the 2025 season and final full-field regular-season tournament.

“I had an amazing time at The ANNIKA last November and participating in the Pro-Am alongside Nelly Korda and Annika Sorenstam, two of the best in the game,” said Clark.

“I’m honored to be an ambassador for a company in Gainbridge that is so committed to elevating women’s sports. I can’t wait to return to Tampa Bay in November to play in the Pro-Am with the best women golfers in the world.”

“It was an honor to play in the pro-am with Caitlin last year. The crowds were amazing, and we are excited for her return to The ANNIKA in November,” said Sorenstam.

“She added such a great dynamic to our event, and her passion for golf and competitiveness were fun to witness firsthand. I look forward to having her back and continuing to introduce the great game of golf to the next generation.”

The Pro-Am event at The ANNIKA will occur on Wednesday, November 12. The event is open to the public, with tickets to both the Pro-Am and the entire weekend event on sale exclusively at www.TheAnnika.com.
