    The Italian, 27, was left upset by Slot’s decision to leave him out of Liverpool’s Champions League squad – with the Reds opening their campaign this week against Atletico Madrid.

    That blow came after the winger started the season in pretty decent form – scoring on the opening day against Bournemouth.

    But Chiesa will have to content himself once again with a back-up role for the Anfield side – having failed to win Slot over last season following his ÂŁ12.5m transfer from Juventus.

    Fabrizio Romano has now revealed the details behind a LATE bid from Besiktas for Chiesa – with the Turkish Super Lig transfer window not closing until September 12.

    The Istanbul giants saw their opportunity to strike for Chiesa with his Anfield future very much up in the air. But the answer from all connected parties in the Liverpool corridors of power was the same: NO.

    The Reds have no intention of letting Chiesa go – as the former Fiorentina wideman will be required during the winter when Mo Salah goes to Afcon.

    “Besiktas also wanted to try a big signing with Federico Chiesa, right after the official decision by Arne Slot to cut him from Champions League squad for the first six months,” Romano wrote on GIVEMESPORT.

    “Besiktas approached Liverpool for a loan worth €5m, the same as Trossard, but there was no chance to convince Slot, Richard Hughes and also Chiesa himself, who wanted to stay at Liverpool, fight for his place and do his best in domestic competitions.

    “That’s how doors got closed, despite Besiktas’ attempts to give Chiesa a guaranteed starting eleven spot in a (possible, that spot is not earned yet at all) World Cup season for the Italian.”

    UFC legend approved as referee in Nevada


    Fans could soon see more of former UFC title challenger Frank Trigg in the octagon.

    On Tuesday, the Nevada Athletic Commission approved Trigg’s license as a referee, making him eligible to work as a referee in the “Fight Capital of the World.” It means Trigg soon could work more UFC fights as Las Vegas annually hosts multiple numbered events at T-Mobile Arena and every Dana White’s Contender Series card at the UFC Apex.

    Trigg, who retired from MMA in 2011, has been working as a referee in California since 2014, starting with amateur bouts and now professional. He’s already worked several UFC events as a referee. In 2017, Trigg made his debut officiating a UFC fight when he worked a women’s flyweight matchup between Alexis Davis and Liz Carmouche at UFC Fight Night 123 in Fresno. Trigg also has worked as a judge before at past Bellator events.

    Trigg, 53, fought in the early days of MMA. He made his professional debut in 1997 and fought for almost 15 years. He competed in Pride FC, UFC, BAMMA and Rumble at the Rock. Throughout his career, he clashed against many notable names, including Georges St-Pierre, Matt Hughes, Robbie Lawler, Carlos Condit, Jason Miller, and more.

    The height of Trigg’s fighting career came in the early 2000’s when he fought twice for the UFC welterweight title, losing both times to Hughes by submission.
